Events
Read custom and automatically tracked events — trends, their properties, and every action live in the event log.
The Events page shows every event your site sends: custom events you send yourself, and the outbound links, file downloads, form submissions, payments and identify calls the script records on its own.
Reading the Events page
- Totals — events (everything except pageviews and identify calls), the visitors who sent at least one, and pageviews for scale.
- Chart — Custom events plots your most frequent event names over time; choose how many with Top 1 / 3 / 5 / 8 / 10. Event types plots each kind (pageviews, custom events, outbound links…). Click a legend entry to hide or show its line. Past eight lines, the rest are drawn as one "Other" line.
- Event names — every name with its count and unique visitors. Click one to see the values of each property it was sent with.
- Outbound links, File downloads, Form submissions — where visitors went, what they downloaded and which forms they sent. Click a row to filter the whole page to it (a link or file filters by its
urlproperty, a form by its page); click again to clear. The arrow opens the link. - Event log — every action, newest first, with who did it and on which page. Scroll down to go further back through the date range. The type chips narrow it to the kinds you pick.
The date range and filters at the top apply to everything on the page, the log included.
Event details
Click any row in the log to open its details on the right: the exact time, the page (a link to it), the referrer, every property with a button to copy it (or all of them as JSON), the visitor with a link to their profile on the Users page, their device and location, and the full session the event belongs to.
Realtime mode
Switch the log to Realtime to watch activity as it happens. It starts with the last 24 hours and checks for new events every two seconds; new rows flash briefly as they arrive.
- Scroll down to read, or press Pause, and new events wait instead of pushing the list around. A N new events button appears at the top — click it (or scroll back up while not paused) to bring them in.
- Checking stops while the browser tab is in the background and resumes when you come back.
- Your filters and event-type chips still apply; the date range doesn't, since realtime always covers the last 24 hours.
The log keeps up to 10,000 events in view. Past that, the oldest ones drop off as new ones arrive — narrow the range or add a filter to look further back.
FAQ
Which timezone are the log's times in?
Your browser's local time. An event's details panel shows the exact time, to the millisecond.
Why do two forms on one page show as one row?
Forms are told apart by their id or name attribute. Give each form one and they get a row each.
Do bots show up here?
No. Known crawlers are kept on the Bots page, and automated browsers are ignored before anything is sent.
