Dashboard basics

How visitors, sessions and bots are counted, and how the date range and filters work on every page.

What gets counted

TermMeaning
VisitorOne browser, recognised by a first-party cookie that lasts a year (or by a daily-rotating ID in cookieless mode). The same person on two devices is two visitors until you identify them.
Session (visit)A visitor's run of activity. It ends after 30 minutes without an event; the next event starts a new one.
PageviewA page load, or a route change in a single-page app.
EventAnything else the script records: custom events, outbound links, downloads, form submits, payments and identify calls.
BounceA session with a single interaction.

Bots are kept apart

Known AI and search crawlers are recorded, but only on the Bots page — they never inflate visitors, pageviews or any other report. Headless and automated browsers are dropped by the script before anything is sent.

Date range

The date control at the top right of every page sets the period all of its reports cover. The arrows step to the previous or next period of the same length. Dates follow the site's timezone, set in Settings → General.

Filters

Filter narrows every report on the page to matching visits — a country, a page, a referrer, a property. Most rows in a report can also be clicked to filter by them. Filters combine with AND.

  • Filters and the date range live in the page URL, so a filtered view can be bookmarked or shared with a teammate.
  • Switching page in the sidebar keeps your range and filters.
  • The ✕ on a filter chip removes it.

Live visitors

The green counter in the header shows how many visitors are on the site right now — those active in the last 45 seconds. An open, visible tab keeps a visitor counted as online.
